In an interview with the Harvard Business Review, researcher Ben Vermaercke found that rats were able to outperform human students on a pattern recognition test. While the two groups performed about equally when they had to identify patterns based on rules, the rats excelled when they had to adapt to more information because the human subjects kept looking for rules where there weren’t any. In Vermaercke’s words, “[The rats] were able to apply what they’d learned more quickly.”
