According to a 2017 study in Animal Cognition, five hens were involved in an experiment that rewarded them six minutes after they touched a computer screen. When another six minutes were about to pass, the hens started pecking the screen more intensely, clearly wondering where their food was. They also demonstrated that they could see future events coming based on how they reacted to specific sounds 15 seconds before a feeding or a spray bottle burst. When each sound played, they reacted in anticipation.
