As HuffPost reported, research from 2017 showed that despite lacking the parietal cortex that allows humans to understand time and space, pigeons were able to judge both as accurately as their human counterparts. Specifically, they correctly estimated the length of a line and the amount of time that line was visible. Professor Edward Wasserman explained that pigeons have other brain systems that do the parietal cortex’s job.
