Retry You’ve earned your happy ending! Black Mirror is a bleak show in many ways. The pitfalls of tech, capital, and society all converge to suck the life and happiness out of so many of its episodes’ main characters. Sometimes it’s deserved, but just as often, it isn’t. But you are one of the rare few who made it through. Not only did you survive the unimaginable horrors before you, but you came through them stronger and happier than you ever imagined. Rejoice because, in this series, you’re basically a unicorn. You made it through, but there was a cost Before you knew it, a terrible situation fell into your lap. You started off excited about a new possibility that a state-of-the-art system could bring the world, but its issues were waiting to blindside you all along. Whether it was your social life or your life itself at stake, you found yourself in a game you didn’t want to play but had to figure out how to win. And to your credit, you did! But in Black Mirror, things aren’t so easy. Your Pyrrhic victory came at a price, and it was steep enough that your whole journey might no longer seem like it was worth it. You survived, but received a bad ending Although there are certainly deadly situations in Black Mirror, it’s also true that some of the worst outcomes don’t have the main character facing their mortality. Some of them get a Twilight Zone-like ending that makes their worst nightmare a reality and forces them to live with it forever. Whether they end up hated by everyone who knows their name or become trapped in a prison of their own making, there’s no way they can look at their situation and say they won. Sadly, you took the wrong bait, and the world’s unfeeling systems exploited your personality traits to such an extent that you fell right into this trap. I’m so sorry. I’m afraid you didn’t survive You didn’t mean anyone any harm. You just wanted to see how far your ambition and sense of adventure could take you. You stuck to your ideals in the face of unprecedented challenges, and you learned some hard lessons along the way. But while that might make you the hero in other shows, it sadly makes you a cautionary tale in Black Mirror.
