Although British rock band Argent’s 1973 saw respectable success in the U.K., “God Gave Rock And Roll To You” didn’t reach the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. until Kiss covered it for the soundtrack of Bill And Ted’s Bogus Journey. But as Ultimate Classic Rock reported, they called it “God Gave Rock And Roll To You II” because they had rewritten the lyrics. In Paul Stanley’s words, “If you listen to Argent’s version, I don’t know what the hell they were singing about. They’re singing about flowers, trees, and snakes. We told the label that we’d do it, but we’d have to rewrite it.”
