If someone were to hear the English pop band’s 1979 song “Kitty,” they would likely note that it sounds a lot like Toni Basil’s “Mickey” if it left out the iconic “Hey, Mickey, you’re so fine” cheer. Well, as Vulture reported, that’s because Basil thought of both the cheerleader theming of the video and the chant for the gender-flipped love song. “Kitty” wasn’t a hit for Racey, but “Mickey” rocketed Basil to number one on the U.S. Billboard charts and to number two on the U.K. charts.
