Retry Correct Incorrect Although Bruce Springsteen’s cover of “Jersey Girl” didn’t top the charts, it’s become enough of a mainstay in his concerts that fans could be forgiven for thinking he wrote it. But in fact, it’s Waits’s ode to his now-wife Kathleen Brennan (right) that he performed alongside Springsteen once in 1981. Far Out magazine quoted Springsteen as saying, “I remember it was one of those songs I said, ‘Well, I wish I’d wrote that.’ It’s a song called ‘Jersey Girl,’ and Tom Waits is gonna sing it with us.”
