According to the Bristol Herald Courier, rockabilly singer Dale Hawkins was inspired by the daughter of Jewel Records president Stan Lewis when he co-wrote “Suzie Q.” But while the song brought Hawkins to number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100, an eight-minute version recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival reached number 11 and gave the band their first Top 40 hit.
