According to Far Out magazine, Pete Seeger wrote “To Everything There Is A Season” in response to complaints from his publisher, who soon sold it to a folk group called The Limeliters (pictured). One of the group’s backing musicians was Roger McGuinn, who renamed the song “Turn! Turn! Turn!” and reworked it into the jangly rock masterpiece for his band the Byrds. The song would top the U.S. Billboard charts in 1965 and was also the band’s biggest hit in the U.K.
