Retry Correct Incorrect According to Far Out magazine, Arrows bassist Alan Merrill wrote the song as a response to the Rolling Stones hit “It’s Only Rock’ N Roll (But I Like It),” but Joan Jett’s version with the Blackhearts would take “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll” to the Billboard’s number one spot in 1981. It would remain there for seven weeks.
