The Secret Service — the force tasked with presidential security — has, true to its name, many secrets. One thing that isn’t so secret, though, is the fact that the service uses code names for every president, vice president, first lady, and every member of their immediate families.
These code names run the gamut from straightforward to perplexing. The idea is to have a name that’s unambiguous, rolls off the tongue, and is easy to understand over radio communications. Some names seem like a perfect match for the person they’re assigned to, but others might leave you scratching your head.
